The heavier winds reached us on the east coast of Florida around 3:00 AM and while the gusts were fairly strong, all the water on the ground preventing things from flying around as much as they were underwater. A blessing for sure. I stayed up most of the night to make sure we didn’t take on any water or have a tree fall on us but other than noise, Milton hit our place and left with very little damage. There will be plenty of vegetation to clean up when all the water is gone but nothing major to deal with.
The best part was our kids. We talked yesterday about hurricanes and tornados and what they should expect to happen. Everyone packed go-bags, food, water and essentials if we needed to leave the house for any reason, and it was one huge adventure. The kids were up shortly after seven and we went outside together to see what was out there. The water had receded enough that the dogs had grass to pee on so that was a win. We took this lead picture to show our friends that we are all doing just fine.
Milton is reported to be the biggest storm in the past 100 years to hit Florida. The tornados did the most damage. The next county south of us suffered loss of life and extensive damage from tornados. Our county had no loss of life, just two injured were taken to hospital. Three families that we know from our church had trees fall on their homes. Our Church family has banded together and will be helping those that suffered damage recover.
This video is footage I shot when we first went outside to look around this morning. We are in good shape and very grateful for the prayers from everyone!
