Two-Year-Old Shot And Killed By Four-Year-Old With Unsecured Pistol

This past Sunday, around 4pm, two little boys were in a vehicle while their parents stood outside the vehicle, when the 4-year-old picked up an unsecured pistol and shot the 2-year-old, who was also in the car. The 2-year-old boy did not survive.
Two families from Georgia, on vacation in Kissimmee, Florida, had just pulled up to the place they were staying and gotten out of the vehicle to talk when they heard the weapon fire. The case is under investigation, and charges may be pending.
It’s an unspeakable tragedy. And it was preventable if only the weapon had been secured in the vehicle.

There are countless options available to safely secure a weapon in a vehicle or at home that make the pistol readily accessible in case of an emergency. But sadly, so many just don’t make the effort to purchase one.

While there are no American statistics available specifically for children shot with unsecured firearms, it’s not uncommon.
We believe in and support our constitutional right to bear arms, but common sense should dictate that we bear and store them responsibly. Before you acquire a firearm, be responsible and make sure that you have a lockable safe to store it in.
