Welcome to my brainstorming session. A typical day for me starts around 5am, give or take half an hour, and ends somewhere north of ten at night. The day gets invested in God first, then my family, and the third priority is business, as I can’t provide for my family if I don’t work. After that comes everything and everyone else, but with the endless parade of items on my to-do list, extras aren’t afforded the attention they deserve.
I say that to say this. It’s Mother’s Day on Sunday, and I have no idea what we are going to do to make it special for Ana. A gift card on Mother’s Day screams, ‘I didn’t have time to get you anything meaningful or even think about what you may want.’ Waiting in line for an hour to enjoy an intimate family dinner out with hundreds of people we don’t know is equally uncreative. I am a pitiful failure at doing special days, and I should be working on getting better. So I sit here wondering what to do and whether the Bible has a verse for this.
It does:
And whatever you do in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
Colossians 3:17 NKJV
I just meditated on this verse for a minute, and God put something on my heart.
I was thinking about what the kids and I could do that she would appreciate. I was thinking about how I could make us look good. God just put it on my heart to do something personal that would make her feel loved and appreciated. It starts with prayer, running down the list of things I am grateful to God for how Ana has blessed our children and me.
And now I know what we are going to do. I can’t post it here; she may read this before Sunday. It won’t be expensive or flashy. It came from God, inspired by His word, and because of that, I know she will have a very special Mother’s Day.
Just know, whatever you are up against, God has a plan for your life and a solution to your problems. Just ask.
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you
