God Bless America

“I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God.”

I declared this oath on August 23rd in Palm Beach, Florida, and at 9:27 AM I became a citizen of the United States of America. I meant every word, so help me God.

It was the end of a twenty-year journey fulfilling a dream I have had for decades. I love the United States of America, and yes, even the people I disagree with here. I even respect their right to disagree with me, imagine that.

This is a country built on the premise that we the people decide our worldly destiny and that God is the creator and master of all things. I believe those things to be true. This is a republic, not a democracy, and we are supposed to disagree on issues so that all sides of a topic are heard and our republic strengthens with greater knowledge, creative solutions, compassion, compromise, and ultimately chooses what is best for the greater good rather than self or one side. Government has a responsibility to serve its citizens here, never to rule us.

I see a growing trend of evil in our country, corruption, control, dishonesty and greed, violence and hatred, injustice and apathy, all contributing to the decay of our cities, systems and collective souls. But I also see a slowly rising wave of disdain for that evil and a rapidly growing wave of strength coming against it.

And in the end, I believe that God will prevail because he always does.

I am raising my children to love God and our country just as Ana and I do. We care about our future and theirs, and right now we are the people that are shaping what we will hand to our children when it becomes their time. And they will be equipped because hard times strengthen us, and them. And they are being raised to stand strong for what we believe is right, and to think of others and serve. Our kids are not entitled to anything, they know that. They also know God gave them all they need to succeed in life as long as they make good use of what He put in them and if they let him direct their paths. They love God, and like their legally immigrated parents, they are proud Americans.

The stars and stripes fly proudly at the front of our home.

And and I stand by the oath we swore before God.

God Bless America
